Sivan 5780

Sivan 5780

Sivan is a month of giving and provision. This is the month in which we can receive what is needed to move into the coming months.

Sivan is still a month of transition. It is a month in which Israel reached the campsite of Mt. Sinai. A time and a place where they were still becoming acquainted with Yahweh. He had shown Himself faithful with the water and quail, but the Israelites were about to receive a litmus test of what they truly believed in.

As Moses was on the mountaintop with God, the Israelites entered into worship of the golden calf. In the absence of a visible leader (Moses), they felt the need to create a physical source to worship. This is a tactic the enemy will bring upon us this month.

But with true insight into what God desires this month to be, we can combat and thwart the plans of the enemy in our lives.

The Understanding

Sivan is the third month of the Redemption calendar. As mentioned above, this is the month that the Israelites camped at Mt. Sinai. This is the time when Moses received the Law directly from the Lord. Provision and giving is a main theme of Sivan.

In the Old Testament, during Sivan, Yahweh provided for the Israelites by giving them the Law. This Law was intended to keep them safe within the covenant boundaries of the Lord. It was a revelation, a great gift, given to Moses and the people of God.

It was the first pentecost – the giving of the word.

This pentecost or Shav’out time was also the first fruits of the wheat harvest. In this we see another form of God’s giving – the giving of physical needs.

In the New Testament, during Sivan, we see the disciples waiting in the upper room as instructed by Jesus. Not having any idea what was coming, they waited and prayed faithfully. Some left, 120 stayed and received…

The second pentecost – the giving of Holy Spirit.

The Constellation

The constellation over Jerusalem in the month of Sivan is Gemini. The Hebrew word for this constellation is Thaumim meaning “joined together”. The two brightest stars are named Castor and Pollux, which are the Latin equivalents of the Greek Hercules and Apollos. Hercules being the one who was to labor and suffer, while Apollo was to bring peace and intelligence.

A star in the left foot of one of the figures is named Al Henah meaning “wounded” or “bruised”. The star in the right knee of the other figure is named Mebsuta meaning “trample underfoot”. Waset is another star in this constellation meaning “appointed”.

We begin to see the true picture coming forth. We are told Jesus will come twice to the earth, once to labor and suffer (wounded and bruised) to bring salvation and the second time to bring peace and total victory – trampling the enemy underfoot. He is the appointed One.

The Alphabet

The month of Sivan is associated with the Hebrew letter Zayin. This letter is made up of two distinct pieces with particular meanings.

the Hebrew letter zayin

The first is the straight line which represents the straight light from God to man. It is actually another Hebrew letter entitled “vav” which is considered to represent connecting heaven to earth. The letter vav also has a number value of 6 which is known as “man’s number”.

We know that Jesus is the Light of the world, stated by Himself as a descriptor of who He is…

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12 [NIV]

The second piece is the the crown placed on top of the vav. Knowing that the vav portion in the letter Zayin represents Jesus, we can now see the significance of the crown being placed on the light of the world, Jesus. He is the crowned man.

The Tribe

Zebulun is the 6th son of Jacob and Leah and is the tribe for the month of Sivan. Zebulun was prophesied over and known for their maritime trade. The month of Sivan is known as the “businessman’s month”.

Moses prophesied that Zebulun and the tribe of Issachar would be together. This places Zebulun, the tribe with a blessing to profit in the business realm, with Issachar who is blessed in knowing the timing of the Lord. What a wonderful partnership.

Zebulun’s name means habitation, which is beautiful since Sivan is the month of Pentecost. This is again the month in history where Holy Spirit came to dwell in the hearts of man.

The Image

For the past year, the Lord has enabled me to create an image that represents the flavor (or an aspect of the flavor) for each Hebraic month. He has also given me beautiful words to go along with each picture. The following represents the month of Sivan:

man with light coming into him worshipping in front of a mountain with clouds surrounding him

The King of this Universe is Father and Provider.  We are told this in His Word and so we know it to be truth.  Sometimes we doubt or cannot see the provision that He has laid upon our path. Two places we see this provision without doubt is first at Mt. Sinai when He gave the Israelites the Law to keep them in covenant with Himself.  He was providing a way into His blessing.  The second place we see this provision is at Pentecost – when He gives us His Holy Spirit.

The cityscape across the bottom of the picture represents God’s physical provision. God knows we need things in the physical to survive, to advance, and to be blessed.

The blue light coming down onto the mountain represents the giving of Torah (the Law) in the Old Testament, a covering for His people.

The blue light is also coming down to reside inside of the worshiper.  This represents Holy Spirit coming to dwell in us, a new covering for His people.

The clouds represent another of God’s spiritual provision, His revelation.  The Word states that He desires to make the mysteries of Christ known.  Through Holy Spirit, we can know those mysteries which Jesus reveals to us.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3

During this month of Sivan, I ask that we have eyes to see what the Father desires to give to us. His gifts are not always what we expect, but are always given to bless us.

Shalom Dear Ones
